Bibleland
Welcome to BibleLand Senior Department where we interact with the Grade 4 to 7 children. It is a privilege to be a part of the spiritual growth of the children and we thoroughly enjoy the opportunity to teach, to discuss and to build relationships with each of them.
The Grace Community Church curriculum we started using at the beginning of this year is a great resource which over time will cover all the main aspects of the Bible. The same lessons are done throughout the BibleLand age groups meaning that siblings are learning the same truths each week. This helps with unified family time during the week. Each week the children are given some homework to reinforce the teaching. As the children are only with us for a short time on a Sunday morning it is important that we work with parents at grounding them in God and His word.
We meet during the second church service from 10H00 to 11H15 and typically once registration has been completed our time starts with praise and worship. We enjoy lively action songs and quiet contemplative songs together for the first 25 minutes and then have corporate teaching as a group for 20 to 25 minutes. We make use of slide presentations, activities, illustrations etc. to make the message more meaningful. Everyone then breaks up into small groups within their Grades for small group time.
The pre-primary group includes children from Grade 000 – Grade 0. We meet each week (except during the government school holidays) in the Promiseland Hall (the face brick hall off the car park by the volley ball court). Children start arriving from 09h30, where they can enjoy different activities (playdough, puzzles, stamping etc) and meet with their small group leader. The bell rings at 10h00 and it is group time, where the children discuss last weeks lesson, recite memory verses and have a brief “point to the truth” activity, which prepares them for that weeks lesson.
We then enjoy our welcome / birthdays and worship time, emphasizing God’s presence and training them for true worship. We then have different presenters who tell that week’s story to the children in a creative way, that keeps their attention and re-enforces God’s Word in their lives. It is vital that the children not only learn God’s Word and more about His Character but also learn to apply His truths to their everyday lives.
The children then break up into their small groups, which we try as far as possible to keep to a maximum of 8 children per leader. Here the children will do an activity (usually a creative one) that will help them remember the story as well as discuss the lesson to ensure that each child has grasped the point.
Our morning finishes off with juice, biscuits and free time in a secure environment. We have a lively group of between 55 and 65 children, but are truly blessed with a committed team of leaders and helpers.
Twice a year we have a pyjama party on a Friday night, where the children come and enjoy a hot dog, play games and watch a dvd. This seems to be a real highlight and we enjoy getting to know the children better.
Our objective is not only to make your child feel welcomed and loved in a special way from the time they walk into the playground but more importantly to make the most of every opportunity of teaching and sharing God’s word with them in a way that they can understand.
